As I start learning more about the Standards for every course, subject and how they change depending on the grade level, I'm starting to see and better understand why we learn the things we do in elementary school compared to middle school, high school and even now in college. Especially now that I am beginning to learn how to teach, I'm going to be on the other side of things, which is very exciting! Also a little scary right now, as I am just beginning and have a lot to learn. I am anxious to what it to come and to eventually get started and teach my very own class!
Working in and with Mrs. Aston teaching 1st graders, I can now see why she does the specific lessons and focuses on making sure that everyone understands everything she teaches. I knew the importance of having lessons, but now knowing all the standards and the importance of knowing that every single student is "keeping up" you could say, or that "no one is falling behind" because the first few years of learning are so, so important.
